About
Fractional CRO. Former CEO. Forty years in industrial B2B.
I spent the first 35 years of my career on the operating side. President or CEO of five industrial companies, including Leadec Corporation, Dürr Ecoclean, and Schenck RoTec. I ran businesses across five continents. I sat in board meetings where the numbers weren't good enough and had to figure out why. I managed sales teams, rebuilt commercial organizations, and delivered results to PE sponsors who had no patience for explanations.
During that time, I worked alongside a lot of outside consultants. Some were excellent. Many were not. The pattern I kept seeing was firms sending smart people who had never actually run anything, people who could build a framework but couldn't tell you what it felt like to miss a quarter. They'd deliver a strategy deck and move on. The implementation was someone else's problem.
When I moved into fractional work, I made a decision: I wasn't going to work that way. My clients get someone who has sat in their seat. I know what the board wants to hear. I know what a sales team actually responds to. I know the difference between a compensation structure that looks right on paper and one that actually changes behavior. That knowledge only comes from doing the job, not advising on it.
Today I work through Chief Outsiders, the nation's largest fractional executive firm, and with my own personal investments through my own practice, Xcelerate Consulting. I also serve as a Senior Advisor at Dunes Point Capital. My clients are mid-market manufacturers and industrial companies — the $50 million to $500 million businesses that are too big to wing it and too small to afford a full-time CRO.
I've been the CEO responsible for delivering the number. That changes how I diagnose a problem and what I'm willing to recommend. I don't bring theory. I bring what I've seen work.
I don't hand off a strategy deck and leave. I build the org chart, write the job descriptions, implement the CRM, design the compensation structure, and document the sales process. My clients get execution, not just a plan.
Manufacturing, capital equipment, industrial automation, automotive supply chain: this is the world I grew up in professionally. I understand the sales cycles, the customer relationships, and the commercial dynamics in a way a generalist consultant doesn't.
